Aunt Mattie’s Plum Pudding

What You Need

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
2 cups soft bread crumbs (about 4 slices of bread)
3 eggs
2/3 cup milk with 1 teaspoon soda in it

2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons jelly

1 cup raisins
1 cup currants
1 cup walnuts

Here's How

Cream sugar and butter. Add all other ingredients. Pour into greased 4-cup mold. Cover the mold tightly with foil. Place mold on a rack in a Dutch oven. Pour in 2 or 3 inches of boiling water. Cover and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and keep water simmering over low heat about 3 hours or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. (If necessary, add more boiling water during steaming.)

Unmold pudding; cut into slices to serve with sauce.

Hard Sauce for Plum Pudding

1 /2 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons brandy (or water)
2 teaspoons grated orange peel (optional)

Beat butter at high speed until fluffy. Mix in remaining ingredients.
